Q: Where is the beach and how is the beach and do you like it in Portugal? ~Ellsley

A: This morning my mom and me went stand up paddle boarding. It was really fun. The beach was really nice and calm. There are 10 beaches right around us, the closest one is about 5 minutes away. I like Portugal.

Q: What does your bedroom look like? Is it more similar to or different from your U.S. room? ~Sarah

A: Different. It has two bedside tables, a big wardrobe, a soft rug and a shelf in the corner with pink curtains. My balcony outside my room has a green chair a few different colored rug, and plants and a good view to look down on the neighbors coming into the building.

I think it’s cool that my dad can now kitesurf, and I’m glad I found him at the lagoon.

Exploring new things is my thing. Like stand up paddleboarding

It’s fun meeting new people and exploring what they like.

Exploring new beaches and edges of the continent

The cool creatures we find everyday are really cool and I don’t think a lot of people get to see a giant jellyfish on the shore.

Seeing these parts of Europe is really cool. I like the mountains, the oceans, the beaches, the sunsets and sunrises. It’s part of who I am.

How We Feel Today…

  • Q: Have you met any sweet dogs yet? ~John

    Not that I remember, but I have met an orange cat and a grey and white cat. The orange cat was a boy and he liked to be pet but sometimes he nipped me, but I still love him. He lives right across the street from us. The grey and white cat was a kitten and he nipped me, he was a feisty one. We met him at a garden store.

  • Q: Hi There! Do most of the kids in your school speak Portuguese and English? Do you like the sound of the Portuguese language? ~Uma

    A: Half of the kids speak Portuguese and half don't. Everyone speaks some English. They speak other languages like English, Japanese, Chinese, and French.

    Yes. I especially like the word Obrigada. Especially since it is basically the only word I know so far.

  • Q: What do you do at the ocean? ~unknown

    A: I swim, collect sea shells, jump waves, and get sandy. I am, in fact, going to learn how to boogie-board soon!

  • Q: Adaline, what is one of your favorite fun things to do in Portugal? ~Aunt Callie

    A: Right now, my favorite thing to do is go to school. It is a really good chance to learn and make new friends. In fact, I've made six friends so far.

  • Do any professional soccer teams play in your city? ~Arthur

    I don't know about that yet, but I am going to find out. There are no futbol players in our city that we've found, but later we are going to go to a professional futbol game in a different city. Futbol is what they call soccer here.

  • What is your favorite food you have tried? ~Erin

    There is really, really good pasta here. We went to an Italian restaurant and their pasta was literally the best pasta that I have ever tasted. And Portuguese food - there is a stew with beans, sausage and cabbage that I really like. And I like all of their pastries.

  • What is your favorite place that you've been to in Portugal? ~Mira

    My favorite place so far is Portimao, because we got to go on a boat ride along the cliffs and I liked exploring something new with my parents. My second favorite place is the beach - any beach!

  • What is it like making friends with kids when you don't always speak the same language? Is it fun? How do you start? ~ Dad

    It is fun. I start by making a nice compliment, then I ask them their name. Then I ask them if they want to play at recess. If they don't speak very much English I try to understand them the best I can, and if I can't, I say "what did you say?" if they don't say anything I say "can you repeat what you just said?" Sometimes I use my hands to try to communicate.

  • Q: What is a new dessert or food you have tried that you really like? Should we try to find it at home? ~ Alicia

    Yes! I like the chocolate pastries and croissants they make at the bakery by my house. Yes, I think you could try to find them at home.

  • Q: Have you tried any new kinds of food that you like, or even don't like? ~ Sharon

    Personally I don’t like the shrimp, fish or octopus dishes. My dad doesn’t like the small fish (sardines).

  • Q: What part of town do you live in? How many friends have you made? ~ Rowan

    A: Hi Rowan!

    I live near the beach (about a ten minute walk).

    I've made nine friends. They are from so many different places. For example, Italy, China, England, Czech Republic, and Portugal.

  • Q: Now that you've lived in Albufeira for almost 6 months, do you think of, or have a sense of, your school, your neighborhood or the town any differently than when you first moved there? ~ Uma

    Yes, I do. At first I didn’t have a lot of friends at my school, and now I have lots. At first I was going to the beach a lot, but now I don't go as much as I used to (it was winter).
